You and Trash

YOU create 4.5 pounds of trash every day, according to national averages. That trash can no longer be - and never should have been - burned (air pollution), dumped into the river (water pollution), or tossed in the desert ("trashing" the desert).

Trash in our country is now handled with high tech, high quality, highly regulated landfills. In the past 13 years, our nation has gone from more than 8,000 unregulated dumps and landfills, to about 1,800 regional landfills overseen by multiple federal, state and local environmental and solid waste entities.

Camino Real Landfill is regulated by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED). Camino Real is operating under a ten-year permit which expires in 2007. ln March 2006, Camino Real begins the process of applying for a new permit to operate for another ten years.
