"The Great Anapra Trash Hunt"
During Christmas 2005, the Camino Real Landfill took great delight in assisting the teenagers of Anapra (part of the Sunland Park community), in cleaning up their neighborhood. The Anapra teens were enormously successful in their project!
After the clean-up, the Anapra teens challenged the Sunland Park City Council to come find even one piece of trash in their community, and they called it "The Great Anapra Trash Hunt".
Camino Real Landfill was involved by providing without charge the 25 "roll-offs" the teens filled with trash. (A rolloff is a construction-sized dumpster.) Over Christmas, we brought out the giant dumpsters, and the teens filled them up. We were amazed: twenty-five construction dumpsters full of trash! That's 625 cubic yards of trash that's no longer littering the yards and streets of Anapra!

Then, the clean-up expanded to painting houses in the Anapra community, and we decided if the teens were willing to do the hard work, the least we could do was supply more than 800 gallons of paint.
There are now freshly painted Anapra homes that sport brightly colored aqua, pink, magenta and yellow exteriors.
The Anapra teenagers made a huge effort to clean up their tiny corner of the planet, and now when these kids step out their doors and walk down their streets, they see a fresh, clean world.
They are proud of themselves. We're proud of them. And Camino Real is really pleased we could help make it happen. |
