"The Great Anapra Trash Hunt"

Camino Real Environmental Center takes great delight in assisting the teenagers of Anapra (part of the Sunland Park community), in cleaning up their neighborhood. The Anapra teens have been enormously successful in their clean-up and paint-up projects!

One year, after the clean-up, the Anapra teens challenged the Sunland Park City Council to come find even one piece of trash in their community. They called it "The Great Anapra Trash Hunt".

Camino Real Landfill assisted by providing, without charge, all the "roll-offs" the teens could fill with trash. A roll-off is a construction-sized dumpster.  Over Christmas break, we provided the giant dumpsters, and the teens filled them up. We were amazed: twenty-five construction dumpsters full of trash!  That's 625 cubic yards of trash no longer littering the yards and streets of Anapra!

Then, the clean-up expanded to painting houses in the Anapra community, and we decided if the teens were willing to do the hard work, the least we could do was supply more than 800 gallons of paint.

There are now freshly painted Anapra homes that sport brightly colored aqua, pink, magenta and yellow exteriors.

The Anapra teenagers made a huge effort to clean up their tiny corner of the planet, and now when these kids step out their doors and walk down their streets, they see a fresh, clean world.

They are proud of themselves.  We're proud of them. And Camino Real is really pleased we could help make it happen.
